Walk-On’s Sports Bar coming to Homewood, taking over former Rodney Scott’s BBQ space

Walk-On’s Sports Bistreaux is coming to Downtown Homewood.

The popular sports bar chain revealed today it will occupy the site at 2701 18th Street S, taking over the former Rodney Scott’s BBQ location adjacent to Little Donkey.

A local leadership team with deep ties to the Birmingham metro area is leading the move, featuring Matt Roth alongside Adam Baxter and John Parker Wilson—the former Crimson Tide signal-caller and broadcaster.

Homewood mayor welcomes Walk-On’s

Homewood Mayor Jennifer Andress said Walk On’s is a perfect fit for Homewood.

“We are beyond thrilled about Walk On’s coming to Homewood! This is a perfect fit for our community, in a fabulous location. I know Homewood will embrace this great family-friendly restaurant and I look forward to Game Day as soon as they are open!”

This will be the fourth Walk-Ons location in the Birmingham market. The other three restaurants are in Trussville and Hoover’s Tattersall Park and Stadium Trace. 

If you haven’t been, here’s how we described the menu when Walk-On’s opened at Tattersall Park back in 2019:

“It’s one-third Southern Louisiana traditional cajun food, one-third classic pub food and one-third healthy meals with fresh salads.”

Walk-On’s news is just the latest chapter in a busy year of change

Surprises and transformations have defined the dining landscape of downtown Homewood throughout 2026. 

Back in February, the community saw the temporary shuttering of the 87-year-old Savage’s Bakery, which thankfully returned just a month later. 

The momentum shifted again in April 2026 when Pihakis Restaurant Group began closing several locations, such as Rodney Scott’s BBQ, Luca Lagotto, Hero Diner, and Little Donkey.

With today’s news from Walk-On’s, every one of those four restaurant spaces is slated to be filled before 2026 comes to a close.
