‘Remarkably Bright Creatures’ author visiting Homewood library

Shelby Van Pelt, author of “Remarkably Bright Creatures,” is stopping in Alabama while on tour discussing the story and success behind her bestselling novel.

The Homewood Public Library invites readers to spend an evening with the author in the Large Auditorium on Sept. 24, 6:30-8PM. Following Van Pelt’s presentation, she is sticking around for a book signing.

The tour celebrates Van Pelt’s debut novel, “Remarkably Bright Creatures,” originally published in May 2022, which has made multiple appearances on the New York Times hardcover fiction best-seller list.

In the novel, Van Pelt tells the story of a widow who works at an aquarium—Tova Sullivan—who develops a unique friendship with a giant Pacific octopus—Marcellus. In May 2026, a movie adaptation of the book hit the big screen.

Registration for the event has closed, with spots filling up just days after the visit was announced.
