USA Today has released its preseason Super 25 rankings for high school football and several big names are at the top of the list including one from right here in central Alabama.
Thompson High School comes in at No. 9 nationally in the preseason rankings. The Warriors have won six of the last seven Class 7A state championships including the last two.
USA Today praises senior quarterback Trent Seaborn
A big reason why expectations are not changing for Thompson is the return of 4-star quarterback and Alabama commit Trent Seaborn.
Seaborn has been playing since he was in eighth grade, helping the Warriors to three state titles in four seasons as a starter. Now, he gets one final season to try to join the rare company of players with four AHSAA state championships.
Here’s what USA Today had to say about the quarterback:
“Seaborn, an Alabama commitment, will complete an astonishing fifth season as the Warriors’ quarterback this fall. He’s cemented himself as one of the state’s all-time great players, already leading Thompson to state titles in 2022 (as an eighth-grader), 2024 and 2025. Playing in the state’s highest classification, Seaborn and the Warriors have the opportunity to complete this next phase of the dynasty winners of six of the last seven Class 7A championships.”

Thompson was the lone Alabama team in the preseason rankings but it’s not unusual to see one or two other teams pop up on the list throughout the season.
Clay-Chalkville was listed among the teams to watch in the Southeast Top 15 preseason rankings.
