On July 4, 2026, Birmingham, Alabama marked America’s 250th birthday with patriotic lighting across six landmarks.

This week, Bham Now photographers headed out to snap photos of the patriotic lighting displays. Here is a gallery of photos taken before and on July 4, 2026.

1. Regions Bank Headquarters patriotic flag display

Who doesn’t love seeing every Christmas season and Spring the 30-story downtown Regions Headquarters lit up with holiday decorations and the β€œtournament golfer” taking a swing down a fairway? Both are cherishedΒ  Birmingham traditions.Β

In late June, in honor of America’s 250th, Regions unveiled an American flag and USA lighting display on its skyscraper’s four sides.Β

Hot tip! Want to get a pic with the  flag in the background? The building will be lit till July 10th.

2. Birmingham City Hall special holiday tradition

Birmingham never fails to light up City Hall at Linn Park during special holidays and to bring attention to important causes like Breast Cancer or Heart Health Awareness months. Of course, this week they lit the building red, white and blue.

3. Jefferson County Courthouse brightens Linn Park

Not to be outdone, the Jefferson County Courthouse sits right across Linn Park from City Hall β€” and yep, they went full red, white, and blue too.

Who lights their building better? The City or the County?

4. City Walk BHAM lights up I-59/20

When all the new I-59/20 bridges and off ramps were built downtown back in early 2020, residents were pleasantly surprised to see a linear park constructed underneath them with skate parks, pickleball courts, amphitheater/gathering spaces and a dog park.

Bonus amenity alert: the bridges glow in different colors all year longΒ

5. Harbert Plaza “Ghostbusters” building lights

When the 32-story AmSouth Harbert Plaza (original name – today it’s 1901 Sixth Avenue) was built in the late 1980s, locals called it the β€œGhostbusters building” because of its unique design at the top of the building which reminded people of the film’s finale.Β

Over the past few years the office tower has lit the top gold and green after UAB football victories and festive Christmas colors in December.

Beginning in June they rotated red, white and blue colors honoring the 250th.

6. Coca-Cola United campus debuts patriotic lights

Even though it is not officially open, on July 3rd, Coca-Cola United illuminated its $330 million campus red, white and blue for our country’s birthday.

The lights are visible off I-59/20 east of downtown before the airport.
