Expect some traffic delays on I-59/20 near Fairfield on Wednesday morning, June 17th.

According to the Alabama Department of Transportation, U.S. Steel will be performing railroad bridge inspections on the busy interstate in both directions at MP 117 between 9AM to 1:30PM weather permitting. 

The operation will require a lane to be closed during the bridge inspections, potentially causing significant delays.

Where exactly on I-59/20 is the inspection?

If you are a motorist traveling west toward Tuscaloosa, the inspection is after Valley/Fairfield Road Exit 118. 

For motorists moving east toward downtown Birmingham, the inspection will occur after Jaybird Rd Exit 115. 

Over 60,600 vehicles a day use this particular stretch of I-59/20. Motorists are encouraged to consider using alternate routes or prepare to adjust their departure/arrival times.
