Southern Steer Butcher to open first Alabama location in Hoover

A new option for premium meats and expert culinary advice is headed to the Birmingham metro area. Florida-based Southern Steer Butcher has announced it will open a new location in Hoover later this year.
The shop will be located at 3049 John Hawkins Parkway in Hoover.
Southern Steer Butcher brings a modern twist to Hoover
Southern Steer Butcher opened its first storefront in Clearwater, Florida, in 2013, drawing inspiration from historic Northeastern butcher shops, according to the company’s website. The brand combines the personalized service of a traditional neighborhood market with a quick, modern shopping experience designed to let customers get in and out in under 10 minutes.
The Hoover location will be locally owned and operated, focusing on humanely raised, sustainably sourced and domestically raised meats, including beef, chicken, pork and seafood.

Florida-based butcher shop expands into the Birmingham metro area
The Hoover storefront is part of a larger national expansion for the company. By the end of 2026, Southern Steer Butcher plans to operate 26 locations across 15 states, the company wrote on social media.
An exact opening date for the John Hawkins Parkway location has not yet been announced. Updates on the grand opening will be shared through the location’s social media channels and the Southern Steer website.
