Homewood wants to feature your 100-year-old house on its new centennial history map
Reading time: 2 minutes

The City of Homewood is calling all home-dwellers who live in a home more than 100 years old.
The campaign is just one event in the city’s centennial year-long celebration of Homewood’s incorporation in 1926.
Homes that are part of the program will receive a yard sign and be placed on a map that will be on the city website. The map will enable appreciators of history to explore Homewood’s past through its architecture.
So far, according to Mayor Jennifer Andress, about 20 houses have been added to the list.

Celebrating the centennial
This year, the City of Homewood is celebrating its 100th year in existence.
Incorporated in 1926 as the first “over-the-mountain” city, Homewood evolved from a series of small, autonomous communities into a vibrant and highly desirable suburb of Birmingham, according to the city. A massive population surge in the 1940s and the establishment of its own independent school system in 1970 laid the groundwork for decades of steady civic and economic growth.
Today, the bustling 8.3-square-mile city is home to nearly 28,000 residents who enjoy a thriving business district, nationally-recognized schools and deep community pride.
“Since Homewood was incorporated in 1926, it has been a city that honors its history while always keeping an eye to the future. For 100 years, Homewood has established itself as a city that cares about home and history, arts and education, business and community.”
Mayor Jennifer Andress
