First look: new Bandido Brunch & Social opening in Five Points South this weekend
Reading time: 3 minutes

A little over two years since Raul Chavez announced his plans for Bandido Coffee, the local entrepreneur is back with a fresh new concept for Five Points South. Located next to his coffee shop, Chavez’s new venture—Bandido Brunch & Social—is set to open on Saturday, May 16.
Bandido Brunch & Social bringing Latino brunch to Birmingham

When Raul Chavez moved Bandido Coffee from the former Panache by Domestique Coffee space in Five Points Lane to its current home in the historic Spanish Stores building, he also signed a lease for the next door space for a forthcoming brunch concept. Now—a little over half a year later—Chavez is gearing up to welcome Bandido Brunch & Social’s first guests.

Located at 1105 20th St S, Bandido Brunch & Social is a new brunch concept specializing classic Latino breakfast comfort foods alongside more traditional American brunch fare. The new spot is the third concept under Chavez’s “Bandido” brand, preceded by:
- Bandido Coffee (opened 2024) — 1101 20th St S, Birmingham, AL 35205
- Bandida Bowls & Sips (opened 2026) — 1024 20th St S, Birmingham, AL 35205

Inside Bandido Brunch & Social, Chavez and his team have transformed the space into a cozy, vibrant environment with splashes of colorful decor like:
- Three murals painted by Haley Salzburn of Salzburn Designs LLC.
- A historic photo of the Spanish Stores building in the mid-1900s.
- Mexican-style tiles, decorative butterflies and other items sourced by Chavez’s mother
What’s on the menu at Bandido Brunch & Social?

Open from 7AM to 2:30PM daily, Bandido Brunch & Social will offer up traditional American brunch fare as well as the Latino breakfast comfort foods that Chavez grew up on.
“While there are a lot of local restaurants that’ll do weekend brunch, we saw an opportunity to create a dedicated Latino-style brunch destination—something we thought Birmingham was missing.”

On the menu, you’ll find dishes like:
- Huevos a la Mexicana, a traditional scrambled egg dish cooked with tomatoes, onions and green chili peppers.
- Chilaquiles, a well-loved dish with fried corn tortilla pieces simmered in salsa.
- Enfrijoladas, corn tortillas dipped in a rich, savory bean sauce
- Mexican-style pancakes, a fluffy family recipe passed down from Chavez’s grandmother
“My aunt is the chef here; I told her what I envisioned and she brought the menu to life with all the traditional recipes she brought over from Mexico—so the dishes are as authentic as it gets! It’s exciting to share this part of my culture and my family with the community.”

While Chavez is focusing on the brunch aspect now, he plans to add a monthly social series with a DJ once Bandido Brunch & Social is approved for its liquor license.
