Big changes are happening in Homewood! After five years in Homewood, Birmingham-based New York-style pizzeria chain SanPeggio’s is closing its location on Green Springs Highway—but something exciting is taking its place.
SanPeggio’s closing in Homewood after five years

Founded by Tim Pegg and brothers Pat and Mike Sanford in the early 2000s, SanPeggio’s is a New York-style pizzeria focused on “homemade sauce, high-quality meats and cheeses and locally sourced veggies.” Sravan and Amareshwari Kumar acquired the business in 2021 and have since expanded the restaurant to a total of seven locations in the Birmingham area:

- Homewood (now closed) — 803 Green Springs Hwy, Homewood, AL 35209
- Valleydale — 2657 Valleydale Rd, Hoover, AL 35244
- Pelham — 1948 Montgomery Hwy, Pelham, AL 35244
- Hoover — 5250 Medford Dr, Hoover, AL 35244
- U.S. 280 — 1401 Doug Baker Blvd, Birmingham, AL 35242
- Chelsea — 50 Chelsea Rd, Chelsea, AL 35043
NY Deli & Juice Bar is bringing authentic halal New York chopped cheese to Homewood
Although Homewood is losing SanPeggio’s, something new and exciting is taking its place.
NY Deli & Juice Bar, a Georgia-based concept specializing in authentic New York-style food and drink, is setting up shop in the former pizzeria. According to founder Mohammed Nagi, a New York native and business owner, Birmingham’s proximity to Atlanta and a strong demand for authentic New York–style deli food helped drive the decision to open here.
“At NY Deli & Juice Bar, guests will see their food cooked right in front of them as if they’re on the streets of New York City. The famous New York-style chopped cheese is coming to town, so stay tuned!”

The new NY Deli & Juice Bar is expected to open in mid-June and will be the brand’s first location in Alabama.
