If you work behind a desk all day in Birmingham, then you know the feeling of wanting to move your legs or not be slouching at your computer screen.
That’s why Walk@Lunch Day was created—to encourage us to get out of the office and get moving! So mark your calendars for Wednesday, April 29, for a fun event where you can take a step towards a healthier lifestyle.
But don’t worry, no matter where you work in the Magic City, there’s a way you can join in on the Walk@Lunch Day tradition, too.
Benefits of moving during your work day

With busy workdays and full calendars, staying active isn’t always easy, but small steps can make a big difference.
According to Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama, regular movement helps:
- Maintain a healthy weight
- Reduce risks of heart disease + diabetes
- Enhance mental clarity by offering refreshing breaks
Walk@Lunch Day was created just for that—to get you in the habit of stretching your legs, getting some midday sunshine on your skin and bonding with coworkers outside the office.

Where you can walk to lunch across Birmingham

If you can’t join the party at Linn Park, then bring the office along and walk to your and your coworkers’ favorite Birmingham lunch spot!
Need help finding a lunch destination close to the office? Try these:
- If you work downtown, try: The Essential or The Pizitz Food Hall
- If you work in Lakeview, try: The Mustard Club or Hattie B’s Hot Chicken
- If you work in Highland Park, try: Rojo or The Garage
- If you work near Five Points South, try: Surin West or Bandida Bowls & Sips
- If you work in Avondale, try: Ampersandwich
- If you work in Homewood, try: Real & Rosemary or El Barrio
- If you work in Vestavia Hills, try: The Great Greek Mediterranean Grill
- If you work in Crestline, try: Craft’s on Church Street
- If you work near the Colonnade, try: Edgar’s Bakery & Cafe
Some coworkers and I have plans to divide and conquer the local eats at The Pizitz Food Hall.
