Railroad Park is the 7th best city park in America, according to a month-long poll conducted by USA Today’s 10Best.

In March, USA Today readers were asked to vote for the best city park in the U.S. from a list of 20 nominees compiled by national greenspace experts.

Railroad Park, Birmingham’s “Front Lawn,” beat out some pretty big-time landmarks, including:

  • Centennial Park in Nashville
  • Falls Park on Reedy in Greenville, S.C.

Forest Park in St. Louis won the nationwide vote.

A fun fact about Forest Park and Birmingham. In 1904, the 1200-acre city park hosted the World’s Fair, the event Vulcan was first assembled and seen by the general public.

How’s that for a trivia question.

Railroad Park is filled with surprises

Tell us — what do you like best about Railroad Park? The spectacular blooming “pink” muhly grass in the fall? The playgrounds, pathways and exercise stations? Or the nesting birds and green space that is used for special events.
