A local restaurant serving up Cajun fare has announced that it will be closing its doors for good on Monday, April 27. Founded in 2023 as Creole Connection, the restaurant rebranded to Bayou on 8th less than a year ago.
Bayou on 8th saying goodbye to Birmingham
Located across from Legion Field at 432 8th Ave W in Smithfield, Bayou on 8th was founded as Creole Connection by owner Jason Perryman in 2023. After temporarily closing in 2025, the Cajun restaurant reopened as Bayou on 8th in late summer of that year.
Despite the new name and look, Bayou on 8th’s menu maintained the same caliber of tasty Cajun food—just slightly elevated. Standout items on Bayou on 8th’s menu include:
- Big Easy Alfredo—Creamy Alfredo pasta tossed with Cajun grilled chicken + Conecuh sausage, finished with a dusting of Creole spice + fresh herbs
- Red Bean Royale—Slow-simmered red beans with Conecuh sausage + smoked turkey, served over rice with honey-drizzled buttermilk cornbread
- Shrimp & Grits Supreme—Cajun-seasoned shrimp over creamy cheese grits, topped with rich Creole Cream and scallions
- Crawfish Cast-Iron—Cajun crawfish, roasted peppers + cheese bubbling in a cast iron, served with garlic butter crostini
Over the weekend, the owners of Bayou on 8th announced on social media that the restaurant will be closing its doors for good on Monday, April 27. In the meantime, Bayou on 8th will be running closure specials on its menu in the weeks leading up to its final day in business.
