6 new businesses + 2 closures in Birmingham this week

It’s a new week in The Magic City, and that means a new roundup of businesses popping up across town.
From a new dive bar coming to Avondale to a New Orleans-inspired coffee shop coming to Homewood, here are six businesses that should be on your radar. Plus, two local businesses we’ll miss.

1. Alabama Goodwill | Irondale

Big news for shoppers and donors in Birmingham—a brand-new Goodwill location is now open on Crestwood Boulevard.
Located in the Village East Shopping Center across the street from the Amazon Fulfillment Center, the new Goodwill kicked off its opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony, coffee and giveaways.

2. 7 Brew | Highway 280

Last year, we let you know about a new 7 Brew location coming to Birmingham and now, it’s open! The new store is located behind Raising Canes and across from Bullet Coffee on Highway 280.
Founded in Arkansas in 2017, 7 Brew Coffee has grow to more than 330 locations in 31 states—and counting. The drive-thru coffee brand offers all kinds of menu items, boasting more than 20,000 unique options.

3. Lucky Stranger | Avondale

Avondale is about to get a little more exciting with the arrival of Lucky Stranger, a new dive bar set to take over the former Parkside on Fifth space.
Set to open later this summer, Lucky Stranger aims to be a place where everyone feels welcome, whether you’re winding down after a concert at Saturn or grabbing a drink after a run.

4. Beignets & Brews | Homewood

The popular coffeehouse Beignets & Brew appears to be moving into the former Bitty & Beau’s location in Homewood. New signage recently popped at the Oxmoor Road storefront, located across from Homewood’s Central Park earlier this month.
This would be the first Beignets & Brews location in the Birmingham Metro area and sixth statewide.

5. Bandido Brunch & Social | Five Points South

Late last year, Bandido Coffee owner Raul Chavez has confirmed plans for a new brunch concept in Five Points South: Bandido Brunch & Social. Open daily, Bandido Brunch’s menu will feature both typical brunch food and Latin-inspired dishes and drinks.
As Bandido Brunch & Social is putting on the final touches, stay tuned on social media where they’ll be announcing opening dates and more.

6. The Archive Society | Pelham
A new curated vintage shop has teased its opening in Birmingham this Spring—The Archive Society is coming soon to the Pelham area! According to its Instagram page, Archive Society a thoughtfully curated vintage and modern consignment store for men, women and children.

7. Bayou on 8th | Legion Field

Last August, Bayou on 8th opened its doors across from Legion Field at 432 8th Ave W, serving New Orleans-style appetizers, entrees and craft cocktails. Just a few months later, the restaurant has announced its upcoming closure in a statement on Instagram.
Bayou on 8th is closing its doors on April 27, so swing by before the end of the month for last-chance eats and specials.
8. Tasty Town | Parkside

According to online buzz and a recent social media post confirming the news, Tasty Town in Birmingham’s Parkside district closed yesterday, April 12. For four years, Tasty Town served the Birmingham area Greek-inspired cuisine including lamb gyros, kabobs and plenty of hummus.
