Brianna loves seeing smiling kids + families at Children’s

Brianna has been with the Patient Registration team for two years. (Children’s of Alabama)

Brianna Webster graduated from Center Point High School, and now, she’s earning her Human Resource Management degree.

She joined the Children’s of Alabama team two years ago, where she works as a Patient Registration Representative in one of the hospital’s clinics. This means she’s responsible for checking in patients and making sure everything is correct before the doctor visits.

There’s a lot that goes on behind the scenes, like:

  • Making sure parents sign consent forms for treatment
  • Informing parents of billing and HIPAA policies
  • Getting patient identifiers, allergy bands, etc.

Brianna is part of the team that makes everything run smoothly for the nurses and doctors, and she loves every bit of it!

“My favorite part of my job is when the kids come back smiling because they got a good report from the doctors. Sometimes parents come in either sad or frustrated, but by the time they finish the check-in process, their mood has shifted.”

Shaneda Johnson is no stranger to the halls of Children’s of Alabama—she joined the team 12 years ago, where she now serves as the Patient Access Supervisor and oversees scheduling for 22 specialty care clinics.

“While my role involves a significant amount of management and strategy, the ultimate goal is to make a difficult day a little easier for a child and their parents.

Knowing that my team and I play a vital part in that support system is incredibly rewarding.”

Shaneda Johnson, Supervisor, Patient Access

Both Shaneda and Brianna voiced that their role is rewarding because they often are the first people meeting the patients who come in.

“Our Patient Access Team is phenomenal; they truly do the ‘hard work’ and the ‘heart work’ every single day. People might not realize that scheduling and registration are more than just data entry and answering phones—we are often the first point of human contact with a family during what might be a scary day.

We’re setting the tone for their entire patient care journey by providing great customer service and a helpful hand during high-stress times.”
