Parkside on Fifth, the popular bar across from Avondale Park, is closing March 27.

Tim Burt, who owns Parkside and the Avondale Marble Works Building, told Bham Now he plans to semi-retire to Greensboro, Alabama.

“I’m excited for the next chapter of my life, and for the next chapter for the Avondale Marble Works Building.”

Burt has owned the Marble Works building for nearly 30 years operating Parkside Home & Garden and Parkside on Fifth, a restaurant and bar in the space. He intends to sell or lease the historic 1902 former showroom, which was completely renovated in 1999.

After Parkside on Fifth is closed on March 27th, the restaurant/bar will open briefly during the first week of April to sell the remaining furniture, fixtures and equipment at the location.

“It’s an emotional thing, because I’ve owned the building 30 years. I was the founding member of the Avondale Park Historic District and I love Avondale.”

Tim Burt

After Parkside is closed, to keep busy in retirement, Burt will be moving down to Greensboro in the Black Belt to open up a new home decor and event space. You can check out his new venture and venue at mockingbirdonmain.com.
