New Chinese restaurant opening in Homewood this spring

A new Chinese restaurant is coming soon to downtown Homewood! Two years after it was first announced by Atlanta-based Chinese restaurant Urban Hai, Foo Hai Handmade Noodles & Dumplings is set to open its doors in Homewood this spring.

Atlanta’s Urban Hai opening new location in Birmingham

Located in Midtown Atlanta, Urban Hai is a popular, authentic Chinese restaurant founded by restaurateur Gary Lin and Chef Hai Wang. Hailing from Northern China, Chef Wang began his culinary career at the age of 15 and has spent nearly three decades learning how to perfect traditional Chinese regional cuisines. After traveling through Europe and Russia, Chef Wang relocated to the U.S.

In 2022, Chef Wang founded Urban Hai along with Gary Lin, an entrepreneur who owns several restaurants in the Metro Atlanta area, including:

• Wei Authentic Chinese (Buford and Marietta, GA)
• Urban Wu (Buckhead, GA)
• Hai Authentic Chinese (Alpharetta, GA)
• Wok Provisions (Duluth, GA)

In 2024, Urban Hai announced plans to open two new locations in the Birmingham area: one at the Denham Building in Parkside and one at the Aloft Birmingham Soho Square in Homewood.

Foo Hai opening in Homewood in spring 2026

Regulars in Homewood have likely noticed the new marquee for Foo Hai in the Aloft Birmingham SoHo Square hotel at 1903 29th Ave S ste 101 in Homewood. According to a recent report by CBS42, representatives with Urban Hai confirmed that the new Foo Hai is set to open sometime in March or April 2026.
