Edolyn’s Pies opens new storefront in Glen Iris
Reading time: 3 minutes

A beloved local bakery has opened a new storefront near UAB in Glen Iris. Bham Now caught up with Edolyn’s Pies’ Marquan Brown, to learn more about his business’s first brick-and-mortar location.
About Edolyn’s Pies

According to founder and owner Marquan Brown, Edolyn’s Pies got its start a little over a decade ago.
“We saw a niche for handmade pies in the area, so we started selling our pies at farmers markets in Woodlawn and Hoover to get our name out there. Every time we’d go, we’d sell out of our pies.”

With demand for their products growing, Edolyn’s Pies first set up a kiosk at Brookwood Mall before opening their own stall at The Pizitz Food Hall. However, like many businesses, Edolyn’s Pies was forced to adapt during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“When COVID hit, we pivoted from retail to wholesale and started working out of a commercial kitchen.”

Opening a new storefront in Glen Iris

About six months ago, Edolyn’s Pies moved their wholesale operations from a commercial kitchen to a smaller space in Glen Iris. Located at 1025 11th Pl S, the new spot is just a short walk from UAB’s campus and the Glen Iris neighborhood.
“This area has got great food traffic, between residents in the neighborhood, college students at UAB and people at the UAB Hospital-Highlands. I think once people know where we are, the retail side of our business will really take off.”

Although everyone’s taste buds are different, Marquan says some of the best-selling treats at Edolyn’s Pies are the German chocolate cake, the red velvet cake and of course, the classic sweet potato pie.
“We make everything from scratch. Our pie crusts are made in-house, and we use a special blend of dry mix for that authentic, homemade taste.”

For now, Edolyn’s new storefront is open Monday through Friday from 10AM to 3PM, but Marquan is already eyeing the possibility of extending hours as business grows.
“It’s about more than just the pies. It’s about the vibe. When you walk in here, you feel the love and happiness that goes into everything we do.”
