About the National School Spirit Championships
The National School Spirit Championships (NSSC) is where the magic happens. This year, teams from across the country gathered at Walt Disney World Resort to show off their skills in cheer, dance and more.
Split into two weekends, the competition showcased schools of various sizes, and wow, did our local teams stand out!
Last week, we filled you in on the Division II Competition (featuring schools with less than 1,399 students) that took place on January 30-February 1, where our local teams celebrated impressive victories.
Now, we’re excited to highlight the Division I Competition (featuring schools with 1,400 students), where talented Birmingham-area squads pushed their way to the top.
Hewitt-Trussville High School’s win

Let’s start with Hewitt-Trussville High School. They powered their way to visitors in the Super Varsity Division of the National High School Cheerleading Championship. With a final score of 87.25 and just a 0.75 deduction, these varsity cheerleaders nailed it!
They beat competitors like Ponte Vedra High School (FL) in second with a score of 85.9 and Brentwood High School (TN) in third at 82.1.
Thompson High School’s win

Now, let’s give a round of applause for Thompson High School, which also made waves at the competition.
They snagged the top spot in their division with an impressive score of 92.9, with only a 0.25 deduction.
They faced fierce competitors like Los Alamitos (CA) and Lake Creek High School (TX).
Congratulations to the Hewitt-Trussville High School Huskies and Thompson High School Warriors on their big wins! Their hard work and dedication truly paid off.
