Uncle G’s, the popular pizza joint in Hoover, is closing the dining area at its Riverchase location on Friday, Jan. 30th.

The good news for Uncle G’s Pizza fans? It will continue to offer takeout, delivery, catering, pizza making classes, food truck service and much more.

“In a lot of ways, nothing is going to change. The main thing is, we won’t be focusing on providing a really awesome dine-in experience in Hoover. Hopefully this will allow us to kind of put our resources in other ways, in other places. Our number one priority is to just keep giving Birmingham the best pizza that we possibly can.”

More resources for takeout, catering and commissary

Located in the Riverchase Plaza at 1851 Montgomery Hwy. in Hoover, the restaurant—which includes pinball machines and an eclectic atmosphere—opened in March 2024.

Gilliam told Bham Now that closing the restaurant to dining will significantly reduce overhead allowing the eatery to pivot and focus on what they do well.

In addition to spending more resources on its food trucks, takeout and delivery operations, Uncle G’s also wants to use the additional space created by the closing of the dining area to expand its commissary.

Currently, between 10-11 food trucks use Uncle G’s space as a commissary, a place where food trucks can legally prepare food and ingredients. By expanding the commissary, Uncle G’s is supporting food trucks that serve Hoover and communities throughout the Birmingham metro area.

“We are counting on the support of the community to get through this. The community has been incredibly supportive all along.”
