New modern Mexican cantina, De Nada, opening in Parkside this Spring
Reading time: 4 minutes

One of Birmingham’s most popular entertainment districts is about to get a dose of Tex-Mex flavor. De Nada, a new Mexican cantina founded by an experienced local restaurateur, is set to open its doors in the Urban Supply development in Parkside this spring.
De Nada bringing new Tex-Mex flavors to Parkside

Founded by the Martinez family, who opened the popular Hacienda Mexican Grill restaurant in Indian Springs Village in 2004, De Nada is a new concept inspired by the Spanish phrase de nada, meaning “you’re welcome.”
“De Nada isn’t just a restaurant; it’s a celebration of community, family, and heritage. Growing up in Birmingham as the son of Mexican immigrants, I learned the importance of flavor, hospitality, and creating spaces where people feel welcome. At De Nada, every dish, every drink, and every interaction is designed to leave guests thinking, ‘That was delicious, the people were friendly, and the place was welcoming.’
Armando Martinez, Owner, De Nada
Located in the Urban Supply development at 1300 2nd Avenue South, De Nada will offer 149 indoor seats, 16 outdoor seats and a private dining section with seating for 25 guests. Designed by CCR Architecture & Interiors and constructed by Blackstone Construction, De Nada will offer an upscale-casual atmosphere perfect for family dinners, nights out with friends and special celebrations.

Inside, guests will find a space that blends rustic charm with modern touches, with highlights like:
- An open kitchen concept with views of fresh tortillas and churros being made
- A sculpture fountain
- A wall-to-wall mural featuring the city of Birmingham, created by a local artist
What’s on the menu at De Nada?

According to founder Armando Martinez, De Nada will deliver “elevated Tex Mex flavors, exceptional service, and a vibrant community-centered dining experience.”
In addition to freshly-crafted margaritas and local beer options, De Nada’s menu will offer modern takes on authentic Mexican cuisine with signature dishes like:
- Ribeye fajitas
- Ribeye tortas
- Mahi mahi ceviche
- Chile rellenos
- Tamales
- Authentic street tacos
- Quesabirrias
- Churros
- Tres leches cakes
Once fully operational, De Nada will offer all-day dinner, a lunch menu, a weekend brunch menu and a weekday happy hour from 3—6PM with discounted appetizers and drinks.
Another win for Parkside

De Nada’s arrival is more than just a new restaurant—it’s a grand addition to Birmingham’s blossoming Parkside district that has been building momentum for years. Anchored by Railroad Park, Parkside is home to:
- Multifamily residential buildings like Birmingham Parkside, The Palmer Parkside, Foundry Yards, Lumen Apartments, the Denham Building, Ion at the Ballpark and more.
- Urban Supply, a mixed-use redevelopment with tenants like Dogtopia, THRIVE Coworking, Fairway Social, Up-Down Arcade Bar, and Leafly Boba Bar.
- Restaurants and bars like Tortugas Pizza, Tasty Town, Good People Brewing Co., Michael’s Restaurant, The Fennec, Current Charcoal Grill and Monday Night Brewing.
- Entertainment options like Red Mountain Theatre, the Negro Southern League Museum and Regions Field.
And Parkside is continuing to grow. Last week, Bham Now reported that local engineering firm MBA Engineers is renovating the vacant Wood Wade Building as the firm’s new headquarters, while a new multifamily apartment building called Sherman Parkside is in the works on the former Sherman Industries concrete site. On the other end of Railroad Park, KultureCity is planning to redevelop the vacant Powell Steam Plant as the KultureCity National Accessibility Park—the world’s first national accessibility park, set to open in 2028.
