Reading time: 2 minutes

Big day for the City of Irondale and the A.G. Gaston Boys & Girls Club! The new Irondale branch opened at the former public library at 105 20th Street South.
Irondale welcomes A.G. Gaston Boys & Girls Club
The Boys & Girls Clubs of America is a nationwide organization of nearly 5,500 clubs serving four million children and teens.
Founded in 1966, the A.G. Gaston Boys & Girls Club serves children from the Greater Birmingham metro area, which now includes Irondale!
“The City of Irondale is proud to quickly repurpose the former Irondale Public Library into a place where our young people can learn, grow and thrive.
With the opening of our new library on Grants Mill Road, this transformation reflects our commitment to being thoughtful stewards of our resources while putting our children and families first. This club is about more than afterschool care—it’s about building confidence, character, and opportunity for the next generation.”
Mayor James D. Stewart Jr., City of Irondale
The A.G. Gaston Boys & Girls Club of Irondale sits in the former public library spot. The furniture was moved out, the walls were painted and new carpet was added, but the mission (and the bookshelves!) stayed.
At the heart of the A.G. Gaston Boys & Girls Club is the children. Leaders tutor, mentor and guide children to become productive, responsible and caring citizens. They do this through programming like:
- Academic success
- Healthy lifestyles
- The arts
- Character development
This new resource is dedicated to supporting the personal growth and lifestyles of Irondale’s youth.
