Milo’s is opening its newest location in Fairfield this weekend.

It’s a new week in The Magic City, and that means a new roundup of businesses popping up across town. 

From a specialty bakery in Homewood to a highly-anticipated entertainment district opening in Chelsea, here are seven businesses that should be on your radar. Plus, one business we’re saying goodbye to.

1. Dolce Pavlovas | Homewood

If you’re in the mood for something sweet—and a little out of the ordinary—there’s a new Homewood spot you’ll definitely want to check out. Say hello to Dolce Pavlovas, a bakery and café bringing handcrafted Venezuelan flavors to the neighborhood.

Haven’t tried a pavlova before? It’s a meringue-based dessert with a crisp exterior and soft, marshmallow-like center, topped with whip cream and fresh fruit. Beyond the pavlovas, you’ll find fresh salads, sandwiches and drinks like lattes, cappuccinos and flavored matcha.

2. Little Donkey | Chelsea

Little Donkey, a 13-year-old Homewood staple known for “Mexican Food with a Southern Soul” including cocktails, shareable plates and Mexican-inspired favorites is opening its newest location at Valley Post development in Chelsea this week!

3. Luca & Lucy | Chelsea

Luca & Lucy, a “little sister” to Homewood’s popular Luca Lagotto, also opens this week at Valley Post!

Under the direction of Chefs Rita Bernhardt and Paul Yeck, Luca & Lucy will serve big pizzas and red sauce-infused plates with an Italian-American flair.

4. Roll Cajun Boudin | Downtown Birmingham

Longtime food truck Roll Cajun Boudin has announced plans to move into the old Iron City Grill, attached to Iron City Bham. Its new space will boast a coffee shop and bakery, sit down dining, a full bar, full-time Cajun grocery with hard-to-find Louisiana goods and even a custom boudin and sausage bar.

Owner Matt Coltrin said in a social media announcement that the plan is to open in February or March of 2026.

5. Feel-Good Convenience | Calera

A new convenience store featuring four “food court-like” options is opening in Calera.

According to a Facebook post by the town the new Feel-Good Convenience store will open at the intersection of County Road 42 and Hwy 70. Two restaurants will open in January, with the other two to follow in March.

6. Nourish Grocer | Five Points West

A new micro-grocer is bringing fresh, whole and affordable food to Birmingham! Nourish Grocer—a new concept from the team behind Bama Health Foods—is set to open in the Five Points West on December 6.

For over 50 years, Bama Health Foods—formerly known as Health Foods West—has been a staple in Birmingham’s Five Points West community. Led by health coach and owner Jacquie Fazekas-Varne, Bama Health Foods offers curated natural supplements, ranging from vitamins and superfoods to herbs and hair care products. 

7. Milo’s Hamburgers | Fairfield

Milo’s Hamburgers is opening its newest location in Fairfield on December 6. Located at 7050 Aaron Aronov Drive, the restaurant is replacing the old Milo’s location across the road.

A Birmingham original since 1946, Milo’s has 24 locations in Alabama.

8. Hunan Garden | Hoover

After over a decade in Hoover, Hunan Garden has closed. Located at 1851 Montgomery Highway, the Chinese restaurant was a local favorite for many Birmingham area residents.
