Did you know that every Birmingham landmark has a “birthday?” We decided to have a little fun and find out how each of these local icons’ “birth” dates would align with a birthstone.
To take it to the next level—why not?—we asked the experts at Diamonds Direct to help us pick out stunning birthstone pieces for each Birmingham spot.
Legion Field: November 19, 1927 | Citrine

Legion Field celebrates its birthday in November—which is extra special to me since that’s my birthday month, too! I feel honored to share a birthday with such a historic Birmingham landmark.
Ninety-eight years ago, on November 19, 1927, the inaugural game at Legion Field was played between Birmingham-Southern College and Howard College (now Samford University).
November’s birthstone is the citrine—a warm, golden-yellow gemstone that radiates energy and positivity. We think Legion’s Field would totally rock this gorgeous citrine ring from Diamonds Direct.

The Alabama Theatre: December 26, 1927 | Blue Topaz

The Alabama Theatre celebrates its birthday in December—it first opened its doors on December 26, 1927. It feels especially fitting that the Alabama Theatre’s anniversary falls during the holiday season, as it has long been home to countless festive performances and celebrations.
December’s birthstone is the blue topaz, a beautiful gemstone known for its cool, sparkling hues that represent peace and creativity. Honestly, we couldn’t think of a better fit for The Alabama Theatre—its energy totally matches the brilliance of blue topaz.
If your birthday is in December (just like The Alabama Theatre!), you’ll love Diamonds Direct’s dazzling selection of blue topaz jewelry—the perfect touch of sparkle for the holiday season.
Fun fact—the city of Birmingham itself was founded on December 19, 1871!
Vulcan: January 1936 | Garnet

The story of Vulcan dates back to January 1936, when groundbreaking began for his new sandstone pedestal at Vulcan Park. Then, in January 2003, Vulcan was beautifully restored and returned to his home atop Red Mountain—so it’s safe to say that Birmingham’s Iron Man is a true January baby—although his birthday party is celebrated in June (maybe when it’s slightly warmer outside!).
January’s birthstone is the garnet, a deep red gem symbolizing strength, protection and passion—qualities that perfectly capture Vulcan’s spirit.
If you share a birthday with Vulcan, you’ll definitely want to check out Diamonds Direct’s gorgeous garnet collection. Our favorite? The Red Garnet Bezel Pendant Necklace—a bold, timeless piece that even Vulcan himself would love.
