Along with lane widening, which began on US-280 on Sunday, Nov. 2, the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) is continuing their efforts to increase the busy highway’s capacity.

Starting Nov. 10, contractors will stage bridge construction work on Pump House Road and the connected ramps. The work will take place on the evenings of Nov. 10 and 11, weather permitting.

Most of the Pump House Bridge replacement project will take place during the daytime, but for the next two weeks, girder installation will be at night.

Other 280 closures

A significant announcement about major US-280 lane closures will be released in the coming days, ALDOT said in an email Monday, Nov. 3.

Additionally, throughout November, two lanes on a 4-mile strip of U.S. Highway 280 will be closed.

For the next month, the right lanes of 280 Eastbound and Westbound will be closed between 7PM and 6AM on Sunday through Thursday nights for widening. Construction started Sunday, Nov. 2.

The closures will be between Milepost 1.39 — approximately located at Shades Creek Parkway — and Milepost 4.51 — just past Interstate 459 at about Colonnade Drive.
