Sure, what you accomplish during the traditional workday is important, but what if your employer also helped you enjoy life outside of work, too?

We recently learned about one Birmingham-headquartered company that does just that. They take a week out of every year to make it an official celebration, but the support continues year-round.

Meet four Regions Bank employees who are shining around the clock.

America’s Got Talent, but Alabama’s got Aaliyah

Aaliyah Ross is Team Lead at the Valley Road Fairfield branch of Regions Bank. Oh, and she also just helped the Birmingham Youth Choir make it to the semifinals on “America’s Got Talent.” No big deal.

But she couldn’t have done that without the support of her coworkers and the Regions family. Though it may seem like a bank and a choir are worlds apart, Ross has found a through-line:

“The ability to fully listen, comprehend and retain information is very important in the banking world as it is in music.

My [work] team has been very supportive of me and my outside involvements. They have shared flyers, donated, participated in fundraisers and sent encouraging words throughout our AGT journey.”

Sean Butler is feeding employees + his passion for community

A typical chef has long hours and little time for outside pursuits. But Sean Butler, Executive Chef at Regions’ Birmingham headquarters, is no ordinary chef.

Now that he’s working a standard corporate schedule, he has more time for his other passion: Giving back to the community he loves here in Birmingham, most recently by contributing a dish to a Jones Valley Teaching Farm benefit and a local high school’s culinary apprenticeship program.

“This job has opened up another world for me. It gives me so much freedom, beyond just the culinary creativity, and I feel supported both within the company and for my time outside of work.

I worked so many long hours for so long that now I have up to 20 hours a week I can devote to make an impact in the community.”

Jacob Guyton balances beats + banking

Fostering a passion for music has been a constant for Regions Bank Direct Marketing Program Manager Jacob Guyton. What began with childhood piano and trumpet lessons at the Carver Theatre in downtown Birmingham has since blossomed into an award-winning stint of producing and engineering for recording artists. His work in the gospel music industry was recognized with Stellar and DOVE awards in 2023.

He brings this same discipline to his work with Regions, and he appreciates the ability to shine in and out of the workplace.

“My brain moves 100 mph on the regular, and work and life intertwine quite a bit, but not in an overwhelming way. I think because I really enjoy what I do and I can find ways to incorporate experiences from my work and life into both.

I learned very early in my tenure here that Regions wants to see us succeed in and outside of work, and that kind of support is priceless.”

Coach Latia Coleman has a game plan

How perfect that an eagle-eyed volleyball coach would also be a risk analyst for a bank. That’s exactly how Latia Coleman splits her time, and she’s banked over 25 years of working at Regions in the process.

Coleman now has a national championship and multiple tournament trophies on her shelf, but it’s the intangible rewards that keep her motivated on and off the court.

“Coaching and being an athlete have taught me many lessons that carry over into my role at Regions. Teamwork is a big one—you learn quickly that success comes from everyone working together toward a common goal. I’ve also learned patience, adaptability and how to stay composed under pressure, all of which are essential in compliance work.”
