6 new businesses (+ 1 closure) in the Birmingham area this week

It’s a new week in The Magic City, and that means a new roundup of businesses popping up across town. 

From a the return of a local favorite in Hoover to a unique post-dinner dessert lounge coming to 2nd Ave N, here are six businesses that should be on your radar. Plus, one local spot that will soon be closing its doors.

1. Habanero’s Mexican Restaurant | Hoover

Habaneros Mexican Grill is back!

The popular Mexican restaurant, which closed earlier this year, reopened at a new location on Montgomery Highway on Sunday, September 21. The new spot is within the Centre at Riverchase development across from the Hoover City Hall.

2. Marshalls | Oneonta

Marshalls, one of the largest off-price family apparel and home goods department stores in the U.S., has opened a new location in Oneonta.

This is the 12th Marshalls location in Alabama and the fourth in the Birmingham Metro area.

3. Stone Hollow Farmstead Of Earth & Home | Homewood

A family farm with an outpost grocer and gift shop in Pepper Place—Stone Hollow Farmstead—has opened a second Birmingham-area retail location in Homewood. 

The new store, which goes by the name Stone Hollow Farmstead Of Earth & Home, will feature “heirloom goods, seasonal provisions and fresh blooms,” per an announcement post on Instagram.

It’s located in a shared space with Tracey Barrett Interiors in downtown Homewood.

4. Nightcap | 2nd Ave N

The owners of Bamboo on 2nd—one of downtown Birmingham’s most popular Asian-inspired restaurants—are opening a brand-new concept: a new “dessert lounge” called Nightcap.

Located just across the street from Bamboo on 2nd, Nightcap was designed to help cater to the demand for post-dinner eats and drink.

5. The Chaat Room | The Village at Brocks Gap

A new restaurant specializing in Indian-fusion cuisine is coming soon to one of Hoover’s most popular shopping destinations.

Dubbed The Chaat Room—a reference to chaat, a type of Indian snack known for its sweet, salty and spicy flavors—the new restaurant will occupy a 2,800-square-foot space inside The Village at Brock’s Gap.

6. Encore Rouge | Downtown Bham

A popular local restaurant known for its Southern and Cajun-inspired comfort food has announced its plans to relocate to downtown Birmingham’s Two North Twentieth building.

After a little over three years in Southside, Encore Rouge is making a big move closer to downtown Birmingham.

According to a press release from Harbert Retail, the real estate agency that represented the landlord, Encore Rouge will be leasing a 3,200-square-foot space on the ground floor of Two North Twentieth.

7. Orange Theory Fitness | Downtown Birmingham

According to a recent announcement, Orange Theory’s downtown Birmingham location on 20th St S will be closing and merging with its Vestavia Hills location.

The merge will begin after the last class on October 23, at which point memberships will automatically transfer to the Vestavia location.
