The Homewood City Council will vote later this month on whether to allocate funding to new outdoor pickleball courts at the Homewood Athletic Complex.

The current proposed city budget for the 2025-2026 fiscal year designates $475,000 to four pickleball courts, which would be located between the parking lot adjacent to the Mega Field and existing tennis courts.

The project already has plans drawn up, which include:

  • Four regulation courts with permanent nets and fencing
  • Blue playing surfaces, red “kitchen” zones and white lines
  • Benches with shade canopies
  • Bleachers for spectators
  • Lighting as an “add-on option” to manage cost fluctuations

The Homewood Community Center hosts pickleball sessions with $30/player passes valid for three months of play, and the Magic City Pickleball Club is located in Homewood with several levels of membership.

The Athletic Complex courts, however, would be a new, outdoor option for Homewood’s pickleballers.

The Homewood City Council will vote on the entire proposed budget at their Sept. 29 meeting. If passed the city will open the formal bidding process for construction.
