Finding hope + community through Head Over Teal

Every step taken at Head Over Teal directly supports the Laura Crandall Brown Foundation (LCBF)’s mission.

Proceeds from the event go toward early detection research, awareness education and financial support services for GYN cancer patients and their families.

Since its founding in 2009, LCBF has:

  • Granted more than $750,000 for ovarian cancer early detection research
  • Educated tens of thousands of community members on prevention, signs + symptoms
  • Provided over $250,000 in direct financial support to GYN cancer patients + their loved ones

Founded in memory of Laura Crandall Brown, the Foundation carries her vision of a world where women are empowered with knowledge, resources and hope in the face of GYN cancers.

Debbie’s Story

For Birmingham resident and five-year ovarian cancer survivor Debbie, Head Over Teal is more than just a race—it’s a lifeline. From the moment she received an LCBF goodie bag at her first doctor’s appointment, she knew she wasn’t alone.

“This was my only connection with other women like me, and it helped me tremendously.”

Debbie, GYN cancer survior

She credits the Laura Crandall Brown Foundation with not only offering emotional and financial support, but also creating opportunities for connection—through survivor lunches, monthly CanSurvive meetings and the race-day atmosphere filled with hope and love.

“I truly believe my inclusion and involvement with Head Over Teal and the LCBF has helped me in my fight against ovarian cancer.”

Head Over Teal is fun for all ages

Head Over Teal is more than just a race—it’s a celebration. The Family Fun Day portion of the event features a pet-friendly, fall festival atmosphere for everyone.

Expect live music, local vendors and a variety of kid-friendly activities, including:

  • Crazy hair stations
  • Community booths
  • Face painting
  • Pumpkin decorating

But no festival is complete without great food. You can indulge in free refreshments before and after the race, including coffee, breakfast sandwiches, pizza and beer.

Plus, top finishers in the 5K and 10K will have a chance to win a Trak Shak gift card!

Ways to get involved with the Laura Crandall Brown Foundation

One of the things that makes Head Over Teal so special is that there’s a way for everyone to get involved.

You can:

  • Run or walk in the 5K or 10K
  • Lead a team of supporters
  • Create a FUNdraising page to spread awareness
  • Choose to “sleep in” and support from the comfort of your home

No matter how you participate, you’ll be making a difference in the lives of women and families facing GYN cancers.

Whether you run, walk or simply come for the fun, Head Over Teal is your chance to make a difference while honoring survivors and celebrating community. We can’t wait to see you there!
