A day in Birmingham powered by women

Lately, I’ve started noticing how the shape of my career is beginning to come into focus—and how much the things I surround myself with matter in that journey. From the places I work to the brands I support, I’ve been more intentional about aligning with things that reflect who I am and where I’m headed.
A few weeks ago, a coworker introduced me to a local coffee brand that checked every box: Morning Duck Coffee Co.. It’s woman-led, Birmingham-based and—bonus—absolutely delicious. So, I thought I’d take you along for a real-life day powered by Morning Duck.
Spoiler: it involves pink mugs, walk-and-talk meetings, “espresso” martinis and a whole lot of women supporting women.
8AM: coffee + cobblestones

My day starts in our Morris Avenue office with a quiet moment and my favorite pink mug. This morning it’s filled with Morning Duck’s Medium Roast—smooth, bold and made from 100% Colombian Arabica beans. It’s the kind of brew that lets me ease into my day before the inbox calls.
By 9, I’m out the door with my travel mug in hand. I take my first meeting of the day while walking the cobblestones of Morris Avenue—something I do often. Fresh air, coffee and a moving brainstorm? Yes, please.
10:30AM: calls + more coffee walks

Mid-morning means back-to-back calls, but I like to keep things moving—literally. I make a quick stop by Pathways to drop off some clothing donations. It’s one of the many incredible organizations in Birmingham dedicated to supporting women and children working toward stability.
By the time lunch hits, I’ve knocked out half my to-do list and hit my step goal.
12PM: lunch + a sweet treat

For lunch, I swing by Blueroot, a vibrant, woman-owned spot serving up healthy, feel-good meals (that also happen to photograph beautifully).
I’ve also got to make a stop at Bandit Pâtisserie for lunch-dessert (yes, lunch sometimes calls for dessert!). The bakery is owned by two Birmingham women who are passionate about bringing their love for pastries to downtown.
Back at the office, I prep a second iced coffee—this time with Morning Duck’s dark roast, since its natural dark chocolate-y notes are the perfect match for my chocolate croissant from Bandit.
2PM: afternoon grind + career coaching

In the afternoon, the pace shifts. Between project edits and planning sessions, I sit down for a quick coffee break with our summer intern, Makenzi. We talk about her career goals, what she’s learning and what inspires us both about working at Bham Now (which just so happens to be women-led, too!).
It’s a small moment, but one of those that reminds me how powerful women supporting women can be—whether over coffee or career dreams. Morning Duck holds these same values—to learn a little more about their story, click here.
There’s something satisfying about powering through the 2–5 window with intention. Plus—I had girls’ night to look forward to!
5PM: stimulating conversation + drinks to match

At five-ish, I wrap up the work day. After that, it’s home for a quick change, because the girls are coming over! On the menu? Morning Duck Martinis (our unofficial signature). This coffee is not just for the morning; it helps fuel my whole day-into-night.
We catch up on work, life and everything in between. It’s the kind of gathering that reminds me how lucky we are to live in a city full of women who show up for each other.
Morning Duck: Be a girl who gets it

Morning Duck Coffee Co. was there from the first cup to the last pour—fueling the day with purpose (and really good coffee).
Because it’s more than just coffee: It’s about showing up, staying sharp and supporting women while doing it.
You can find Morning Duck Coffee Co. online and at select Birmingham retailers. Follow on Instagram for updates, pop-ups and all the pink-duck energy you can handle.
