Alabama’s natural beauty is about to take center stage in living rooms across Birmingham thanks to the award-winning “Southern Exposure” documentary series. This year’s edition is now available to borrow for free at all 17 Birmingham Public Library (BPL) locations.

Read on to find out why it’s a must-watch.

Behind “Southern Exposure”

Produced in just six weeks each summer, “Southern Exposure” is a collection of short films that take you on a journey from rushing rivers to deep green forests while spotlighting powerful stories of people, places and environmental issues shaping our state.

Thanks to a generous donation from Alabama Rivers Alliance and Black Warrior Riverkeeper, the 2024 edition is now part of the BPL’s films collection. That means you can pop into your neighborhood branch, grab a DVD and enjoy some of the best environmental storytelling Alabama has to offer—for free!

Bonus: Previous years’ films are also available, so you can binge your way through a rich collection of local beauty and advocacy.

“I am proud that every Birmingham Public Library location has these excellent ‘Southern Exposure’ documentaries. Each year, Black Warrior Riverkeeper delivers the newest copy of Southern Exposure to every public library in the 17-county Black Warrior River watershed.”

Charles Scribner, Executive Director, Black Warrior Riverkeeper
