Itโ€™s a new week in The Magic City, and that means aย new roundup of businessesย popping up across town.ย

From the return of a beloved dive bar to a Jamaican spot serving tasty island eats, here are five businesses that should be on your radar. Plus, two locals spot weโ€™re saying farewell to.

Now Open

1. Billy’s Tavern | Lakeview

After a brief hiatus, longtime Lakeview spotย Billyโ€™s Tavernย has reopened its doors.ย

After running his eponymous dive for over four decades, founder Billy English passed in early 2025. Luckily, the bar has a new owner: longtime bartender at Louโ€™s Pubย Jesse Thompson.

Since getting the keys to the space in February, Thompson has been working to get the bar into tip-top shapeโ€”the new space features additional seating, pool tables and decor.

2. Lee’s Coffee | Workplay

Located inside Workplay atย 500 23rd St S, Leeโ€™s Coffee officially opened its doors in May and has become a popular addition to the multifunctional venue.ย

The new coffee shop uses locally-owned Non-Fiction Coffee to craft tasty craft beverages. One of its most unique options is the โ€œBuild Your Own 16oz. Latteโ€โ€”simply grab a sheet, fill out the temperature, milk and sweeteners/syrups youโ€™d like and hand it to the barista.

In addition to coffee, Leeโ€™s serves up domestic and local beers and a wide range of coffee-based cocktails and classic cocktails.

3. Bangkok Street Foods | Liberty Park

Thai food lovers, take note: You have a new option for street food-inspired fare over the mountainโ€”Bangkok Street Foodsย recently opened just off Overton Rd in the Liberty Park neighborhood of Vestavia Hills.

The spot prides itself on traditional Thai dishes made the classic wayโ€”but with modern twists like an open kitchen and speedy turnaround time. Modeled off of a Thai street food market, you can find amazing bites like spring rolls, papaya salad and a variety of spicy noodle dishes.

4. Tacos Pica-Chu | Homewood

After six decades in business, DeVinciโ€™s Italian Restaurant in Homewood is closing on August 10.

The beloved eatery made the announcement in anย Instagram postย on Saturday, July 12th:

“It is with a heavy heart that our family announces the closing of DeVinciโ€™s Restaurant on August 10th.ย

After 64 amazing years in business, our journey comes to an end. We have had the privilege of serving generations of customers and have developed deep friendships over the years. Our landmark building is being turned over to a new owner that shares the same love for food and people that we have given to our patrons. We will miss you all. Thank you for the years of patronage and hope to see you again before we say goodbye.โ€

Corbin Farms Winery, one of the oldest wineries in the South, is closing its doors on August 10.

In a social media postย yesterday, the family-owned business announced the closing of its Calera winery and event location in a few short weeks. While the winery mentions it may be searching for future spots down the road, it remains open now for business and eventsโ€”plus, theyโ€™re currently marking down existing inventory and merch.

โ€œAs we close this chapter after eight wonderful years, we are filled with gratitude for the relationships and memories weโ€™ve created with our customers who have become family. Each bottle shared, every conversation and the laughter weโ€™ve experienced together will always hold a special place in our hearts.

While we are exploring options for relocation, we remain uncertain about what the future holds. However, the love and support from this incredible community will continue to inspire us as we embark on our next journey.โ€
