Another new development has cleared the finish line in downtown Birmingham. Located at the intersection of 22nd Street S and 2nd Avenue S, Battery II is a mixed-use development anchored by The Painted Lady hotel and Bygones, with over 18,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space available for new tenants.

In 2020, the developers behind The Battery—a mixed-use development home to Birmingham District Brewing, Wasabi Juan’s, Gus’ World Famous Fried Chicken and more—announced plans for a second development across the street. Called Battery II, the new development is located at 2143 2nd Ave S in the Eyers-Raden Building, a hundred-year-old structure that held handwritten letters underneath wallpaper dating back to 1911.

Due to delays and financial issues caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the development was picked up by Addicus, a financial management company headquartered in Oxford, Mississippi, with a satellite office in Birmingham.

“This project was about doing the hard things when it mattered most. We honored our commitments, and ultimately delivered something Birmingham can be proud of.

This development is a symbol of perseverance, partnership, and what’s possible when you refuse to leave a project unfinished. It’s about reviving history while supporting tourism and job creation in Birmingham.”

At the heart of the new development are two unique businesses: The Painted Lady hotel and Bygones.

A boutique hotel managed by Lark Hotels, The Painted Lady promises, “a blend of elegant charm with a tribute to the city’s resilient past” and features 22 curated rooms and suites capable of accommodating a maximum of two guests.

Located next-door to The Painted Lady is Bygones, a classy cocktail bar backed by Michael Tobey and Phillip Crowe, two local bartenders who wanted to create their own cocktail bar experience.

In addition to Bygones and The Painted Lady, Battery II includes over 18,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space for future tenants.
