The rumors are true!

Earlier this year, Bham Now reported that Raising Cane’s, a national fried chicken restaurant with a cult following, was potentially eyeing the Birmingham area for its next location. Today, that rumor was confirmed by representatives of the chain—Raising Cane’s will be opening its first Birmingham location on Highway 280.

Read on for details.

About Raising Cane’s

Raising Cane’s is the chicken finger spot that’s taken the fast-food world by storm—one “caniac combo” at a time.

Founded in 1996 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, they’ve built a cult following with a simple menu that does one thing really well: chicken fingers, crinkle-cut fries, slaw, Texas toast and their iconic Cane’s sauce.

The chain has more than 750 locations nationwide. Its upcoming Birmingham-area location will be the second in Alabama, with only one other location in Tuscaloosa near the University of Alabama campus.

In 2023, longtime U.S. 280 anchor Lloyd’s announced its plans to close after more than 80 years.

Since its closure, the building has been demolished and its land has been split into three lots. One will be the future site of New Day Car Wash, a local car wash with three existing Birmingham-area locations and two on the way.

Another lot will be the future home of Raising Cane’s, at 5301 U.S. 280 near Walmart and Hamburger Heaven.

The restaurant is expected to open in Spring 2026.
