Between the two of them, local filmmakers Dan King and Ryan Kindahl have a combined 25 years of experience in the industry from commercial work and photography to writing and directing.
Their latest project, Videovore, is a fantasy film inspired by the style of 1980s Amblin movies like E.T. and Gremlins. While it features fantastical, “creature feature” elements, the heart of the story is a poignant family drama centered on a son’s relationship with his father.
According to Kindahl, one of the main characters is a creature that’ll be brought to life with a puppet, created for the film by an artist in Denver.
Support independent filmmakers
Want to help support Dan and Ryan? They’ve started a GoFundMe to help crowdfund for producing the film and feeding the crew. So far, they’ve reached $6,650 of their $10K goal.
“We are filming in Birmingham for a reason. And that reason is because we believe in our city and its potential to become a destination for world-class filmmakers around the globe. We put this belief into practice by investing our production budget back into our home—including supporting local businesses.
So, if you’re able to throw us a couple of bones, you’ll be helping make a special project happen AND supporting the film industry in Birmingham. It’s a win/win!”
