Oak Mountain State Park is opening a new entry gate off Highway 280 on May 12.

In 2022, Oak Mountain State Park officially expanded 1644-acres when it added the Forever Wild Belcher Tract, preserving one of the largest undeveloped natural areas along the U.S. 280 corridor.

Since then, trails have been expanded to access scenic overlooks and lakesides on the new tract. A parking lot with approximately 75+ spaces has also been constructed.

The new entry gate is on Belcher Drive off Highway 280, across from North Shelby Baptist Church.

How will the new entry gate work?

Once the Belcher entry gate opens on May 12th, there are several ways to access the new tract.

For day visitors it will cost $5 per car at the gate’s cashless kiosk.

Annual Park Passholders need to stop by our Oak Mountain State Park’s Main Office to get their gate access permit. It is an extension to the annual pass.

And thanks to Alabama State Park’s Parks for Patriots program, veterans and active service members can receive an access permit at the Main Office.

If you want to become an Annual Park Passholder learn about the program – HERE.

The new entry gate and access to the Belcher Tract do not yet connect with the roads within the State Park.
