The story behind the walk

Lori Livingston founded the NLOCF in 2004 after the loss of her mother, Norma, to stage 4 ovarian cancer.

Lori chose to honor her mother’s memory with a mission. Norma’s legacy sparked a movement focused on early detection, education, patient support and funding for research. Over the past two decades, the foundation has raised more than $1.8 million through impactful campaigns like “Save the O’s,” “Together in Teal” and of course the cherished Motherwalk.

Each year, the walk helps raise awareness, provide funding and offer support to women and families facing ovarian cancer—right here in our community.

One family’s journey: Brittany Foster and her mom

Every step taken at Motherwalk represents a real person, a real family and a real fight. I spoke with Brittany Foster, whose mother has been affected by ovarian cancer.

Brittany’s mom was diagnosed with ovarian cancer after doctors discovered a softball-sized tumor. What followed was a whirlwind of surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. But through it all, Brittany’s mom never stopped fighting.

During that difficult time, Britney found the NLOCF—and through them, the Motherwalk.

“The Foundation not only provided us with information but also gave her a care package that was such a blessing,”

“Raising funds through this walk has been incredibly impactful, helping us get supplemental items and support we might not have known about otherwise.”

For Brittany and her family, Motherwalk is more than a tradition—it’s a symbol of resilience. Her story is just one of many that make this event so meaningful.

It’s more than a race
