Inside Sauce & Suds, Birmingham’s new chicken joint
Located at 1035 20th St S, Sauce & Suds is a brand-new restaurant concept from longtime restaurateur Dennis Maple.
“[Sauce & Suds] is a concept I’ve had in the back of my mind for about 15 years. I’ve wanted to have my own restaurant for a long time, and I always knew it was going to be primarily focused on chicken wings.”

Over the past couple of months, Maple has transformed the former Black Market Bar & Grill space into his vision for Sauce & Suds, with new seating, decor and games throughout.
As the name implies, Sauce & Suds’ menu consists of beer (suds) and nearly 20 custom sauces, like “whisperin’ garlic,” “24 karat bbq” and “mango habanero, ” perfect to pair with wings (traditional or boneless) or tenders.
If wings aren’t your jam, Sauce & Suds’ menu also includes:
- Caesar, Buffalo Chicken and House Salads.
- Buffalo Ranch and Chicken Wraps.
- A Sauce & Suds smash burger.
- Desserts, sides and starters.
“We’ll have burgers and wraps and other options, but for food we’re primarily focused on wings. Everything will be fresh—we have a stellar local butcher and a local poultry farm from where we’ll source all the chicken.”

Sauce & Suds opening Saturday, April 26
Sauce & Suds has big plans for its grand opening celebration on April 26; in the meantime, you can visit at regular hours during the restaurant’s soft opening.
Several new restaurants and bars have opened or announced plans to open soon in Five Points South, including:
- Opulence Drag Lounge & Taqueria is set to open summer 2025 at 2012 Magnolia Ave.
- Dobbers Five Points Pub recently opened at 1206 20th St S.
