AMC Classic Lee Branch 15 closed its doors Sunday evening after 21 years in operation, according to multiple sources.

The Shelby County Reporter has reported that a gym is slated to replace the theater.

AMC Classic Lee Branch will be missed

Avid moviegoers in the area were saddened to hear the news about the shuttering of the popular multiplex.

“[I am] absolutely heartbroken to hear Lee Branch is closing. [When I lived] on U.S. 280, it was my ‘go to’ theater so I didn’t have to fight Summit traffic. And their Big D theater had the best picture and audio quality in town.”

The departure of the theater does leave a void for North Shelby County, one of the fastest-growing communities in the state of Alabama.

The nearest theater for residents on U.S. 280 is now the AMC Summit 16. In 2023, the multiplex completed a $5.1 million facelift which included new seats and a refresh of the 16-auditorium theater.
