It’s a new week in The Magic City, and that means a new roundup of businesses popping up across town.

From a new coffee shop in the busy Parkside district to a beloved barbecue joint joining the Birmingham community, here are six new businesses coming to town.

Plus, find out which longtime theater is closing its doors.

1. Whammy Coffee | Parkside

Give a warm welcome to Whammy Coffee! Located in the Denham Building near Railroad Park, Whammy is serving tasty caffeinated concoctions all day long.

We tried the iced blueberry matcha latte—a perfect blend of sweet, fruity and creamy.

2. Capella Pizzeria | Uptown

Today, March 24, Capella Pizzeria is celebrating its grand opening in Birmingham’s Uptown Entertainment District.

Located in the former “Your Pie” space, the new Capella Pizzeria will be the brand’s third location in the Birmingham area. Currently, the pizzeria has locations in downtown Trussville and Inverness Village on U.S. 280.

Now, you’ll be able to swing by for a slice after your next show at the BJCC!

3. Lululemon | The Summit

Later this year, high-end athletics brand Lululemon will be moving from its current home near Chuy’s at The Summit to the former Talbots building—an expansion that will double its size.

4. Leafly Boba Bar | Parkside

It’s an exciting time to be in Birmingham’s Parkside district—Huntsville-based Leafly Boba Bar is gearing up to introduce its signature handcrafted drinks, premium loose-leaf teas and all-natural ingredients to Birmingham at the new Urban Supply development.  

Inspired by their shared love of boba, Huy Vu, Keoni Evans and Minh Vu founded Leafly Boba Bar in 2022. Now, the owners are bringing its full lineup of authentic drinks to The Magic City.

5. Popeye’s | Highway 280

A familiar fast food spot along Highway 280 is undergoing a major transformation.

The Burger King located on the bustling intersection across from Target and Chick-fil-a has officially closed its doors and is now in the process of becoming a Popeye’s Louisiana Kitchen.

6. Archibald & Woodrow’s BBQ | Downtown Birmingham

Archibald & Woodrow’s, the nationally renown BBQ joint out of Tuscaloosa County, is coming to Birmingham.

Named the 14th best barbecue joint in the South by Southern Living in 2023, the new restaurant will be located on 1st Ave N in the former home of Rib It Up.

7. AMC 15 Lee Branch | Highway 280

AMC Classic Lee Branch 15 closed its doors Sunday evening after 21 years in operation, according to multiple sources.

The Shelby County Reporter has reported that a gym is slated to replace the theater.

The nearest theater for residents on U.S. 280 is now the AMC Summit 16. In 2023, the multiplex completed a $5.1 million facelift which included new seats and a refresh of the 16-auditorium theater.
