Birmingham’s hotel construction boom

In the decade since I moved to Birmingham, the Magic City has seen a tremendous growth spurt, with new businesses, restaurants, development and apartment buildings popping up all over town.
Another key growth metric is on the rise in Birmingham as well: new hotel developments.
According to a recent study by commercial real estate company CoStar Analytics, hotel development in Birmingham has ramped up.

A total of 1,070 new hotel rooms are set to open in the Magic City this year; another 428 rooms are expected to open by 2026. Currently, the Birmingham hotel market contains roughly 17,400 hotel rooms—12% of which (2,100) were added in the past decade.
Several new hotels are currently under construction in downtown Birmingham. Ascent Hospitality—the brand behind the Elyton Hotel—is redeveloping the historic Brown Marx Tower into a dual-branded AC & Element hotel with a total of 338 rooms. In addition, a new, 22-room boutique hotel called The Painted Lady is set to open in Birmingham’s Automotive Historic District later this year.
