It’s a new week in The Magic City, and that means a new roundup of businesses popping up across town.

From a listening room and cocktail bar coming to downtown Birmingham to a relaxing head spa in Bessemer, here are six new businesses coming to the Birmingham area.

1. Venue 197 | Homewood

Homewood is on a roll with yet another new opening: Brothers Jason and Jamal Brown are moving their successful pop-up catering business, known asΒ 1918 Catering, to a brick-and-mortar location calledΒ Venue 197.

The duo specializes in showcasing family recipes like their famous smoked chicken, fried green tomatoes, rich spinach dip and some of the finest slow-cooked barbecue in the South.Β 

2. Her Oasis Head Spa | Bessemer

In need of some rest and relaxation? Her Oasis Head Spa in Bessemer is a new spa specializing in scalp treatments and head massages.

The new spot is owned and operated by mother-daughter duo Shannon and Shonae Ferguson, who also own Bessemer hair salon HairbyShonae.

3. The Picklr | Vestavia Hills

In October of last year, we let you know aboutΒ TheΒ Picklr, a one-of-a-kind indoor pickleball complex taking over the former Sprouts location on Highway 31. Now, you can finally check it out yourself.

Once you step inside The Picklr in Vestavia Hills Common, you’ll see:

  • 10 indoor courts, including 4 championship-sized courts
  • Pickleball Central Pro Shop
  • Community event space

4. Ralph’s Listening Room | Downtown Birmingham

A new music-focused cocktail bar, Ralph’s Listening Room, is set to open in downtown Birmingham later this summer.Β 

Co-owned by Qadeem Hassan and Justin Speegle, Ralph’s aims to bring the audiophile and cocktail community together in an inviting, intimate space with dim lighting and smooth colors.

5. 234 Boutique | Mercantile on Morris

A charming new boutique is coming soon to Mercantile on Morris, bringing trendy, chic clothing options to Mercantile on Morris.

A family-owned business, 234 Boutique is led by the three Wimberly sistersβ€”the second, third and fourth siblings of five childrenβ€”who have always shared a love for fashion.

According to co-owner Ivey Wimberly, 234 Boutique aims to open its virtual store this summer and plans to open its brick-and-mortar location in the fall.

6. The Collective | West Homewood

According to a recent post on Instagram,Β The CollectiveΒ in Pepper Place is expanding and opening a second location on Oxmoor Rd.

Since 2019, this trendy salon has offered fresh, gender-affirming cuts, great products and high-quality service.
