Sandwich lovers, this one’s for you!

The Broken Knife, a combination of a dine-in and take-out restaurant, is now open for business on Oxmoor Road. The shop features all in-house made sauces and their famous duck-fat chips.

Read on to learn more about this booming business and its plan for the future.

The Broken Knife – Bold sandwiches

As a person who’s not a huge fan of sandwiches, I genuinely loved every bite of my hand-crafted, smoked brisket.

The Broken Knife originally started out as an idea and space to get creative with sandwiches combination. Longtime friends and business partners Bucki Davis and Chris Talley got their culinary experience working at Café de France, the Birmingham Botanical Gardens and other restaurants. Chris left his Executive Chef position at Yellow Bicycle to start Blossom & Bee, a local catering business.

Now, the dynamic duo has officially opened their very own shop for sandwich lovers looking for the best quality of meats. The shop has not even been open for a week but already is receiving a ton of traction online.

“Chris and I kind of got tired of working for people. We wanted to do it on our own.

We wanted to have a product that we were proud of and believed in and that’s what we built. We’ve been doing food for almost three decades and are so excited to bring something fresh and new to Birmingham. There aren’t many specialty sandwich shops and we’re to have opened The Broken Knife.”

The best part about the Broken Knife is the selection of mouth-watering cold and hot sandwiches for dining in or takeout.

Here’s a look at their menu:

  • Italian chicken cutlet: hand-breaded chicken breast with Italian spices, deep fried, topped with house marinara, Burrata and smoked mozzarella
  • Texas-style brisket: salt and peppered brisket, smoked low and slow, sweet house-made BBQ sauce, caramelized onions
  • House-smoked turkey and cranberry: smoked ham and turkey, smoked Gouda, candied bacon, pecans, house pickles, lettuce, tomato, house pickles, mustard and mayo

“Our bread is freshly baked, all the sauces are made by us. We’ve seen our business catch on well and honestly, we’re going to need some help. We’re going to continue to grow and open up our venue for full floor seating and expand to a brick and mortar.”
