On a Saturday afternoon in June of last year, the smoker at the Lakeview location of Moe’s Original BBQ caught fire. Luckily, no one was injured—however, the fire damaged the building and caused Moe’s to temporarily close its doors.

“There was smoke damage, water damage and fire damage throughout the building—and this is a building that’s over 100 years old.”

Once the smoke cleared, the Moe’s team picked up the pieces and began a comprehensive renovation.

“We’ve made a lot of effort to retain the character of Moe’s; we repainted the walls the same color and put art right back where it was before the fire. When you walk in, you won’t feel like it’s a completely new place.”

However, the Moe’s team did use the renovation as an opportunity to make several changes to the restaurant, such as expanding doorways to make the interior feel more spacious and completely rebuilding the patio—now all one level.

“We made a handful of alterations to make the space more inviting to customers and more functional to employees. It’s an old, dated house with a lot of character!”

After a long journey, Moe’s Original BBQ is finally reopening its doors in Lakeview.

“It was humbling to hear how much we were missed. It’s been incredible to hear how this place has touched so many lives. I even met my wife here and proposed to her here; Moe’s is just a special place that has some really treasured memories for so many people.”

Moe’s Original BBQ will have a soft opening today, then reopen with normal business hours starting Friday, February 21.
