Thompson, Mountain Brook High Schools national dance team champions again

Thompson High School and Mountain Brook High School defended their National Dance titles on February 2nd at the Universal Dance Association (UDA) Team National Championships in Orlando, Florida..
The two Birmingham-area high schools took home the national championships in three separate categories.
Thompson High School – Back to back to back champs!
Can you say dynasty? For the third straight year the Thompson High School (THS) Dance Team, the Warriorettes, and the THS Band captured the National Championship in UDA’s ultra-competitive and prestigious GameDay Live competition.
According to UDA the Game Day Live performance consist of the following elements:
- Fight Song
- Spirit Raising
- Performance Routine —combined in a 3:30 performance by the pep band and dancers, just like the current game day format. The entire performance may not exceed 5:30
In addition to the upper school’s title, the Thompson Middle School Dance Team earned its first-ever National Championship in the Junior High Kick Division at UDA.
Mountain Brook High School repeats as champs
Thompson was not the only Birmingham-area school to lift a trophy in Orlando. The Mountain Brook High School Dorians also repeated as national dance champions taking home the Large Varsity Division II Kick UDA National Dance Team title.
Also in that category, Helena High School was the runner-up and Gardendale High School came in 4th place.
Most prestigious high school dance championship in America
For 40 years, the UDA National Dance Team Championship at Disney World has been the most prestigious dance championship for high schools and colleges across America.
Congrats to Thompson, Mountain Brook, Helena and Gardendale for reaching the pinnacle of their sport.
