5 businesses coming soon to The Magic City, plus one we’re sad to see close

It’s a brand new week in The Magic City, and that means another flock of new businesses are preparing to open their doors.

From a new locally-owned salon open in Crestwood to a wing and beer pub coming to Five Points South, read on for everything you need to know about what’s happening around Birmingham.

Now Open

1. Lucille’s Salon | Crestwood

Looking for a trendy new cut? New to the Crestwood neighborhood, Lucille’s is a hair salon and shop offering trinkets, home decor, goodies and even gift wrapping.

According to its website, Lucille’s is a one-woman show run by owner and stylist Sarah Sims.

2. Sauce & Suds | Five Points South

A new restaurant called Sauce’s & Suds is coming soon to the former Black Market Bar & Grill location in Five Points South. Owned by Dennis Maple, the restaurant and bar will predominately serve a wide variety of wings (sauces) and beer (suds).

According to Maple, Five Points South was the perfect location and this was the perfect building, featuring the old pub feel he was looking for.

As the name implies, Sauce & Suds will offer at least 20 custom sauces—including a mild “Whispering Garlic”, a spicy “Screaming Garlic”, honey barbecue, mango habanero and many more.

3. 7 Brew Coffee | Irondale

If you drive past the Publix Super Market at Montclair Place along Montclair Road, you’ll see groundwork beginning on Birmingham’s newest 7 Brew Coffee Drive-Thru.

Founded in Arkansas in 2017, 7 Brew Coffee has grow to more than 330 locations in 31 states—and counting. The drive-thru coffee brand specializes in coffees, energy drinks, teas, lemonades, smoothies, shakes and more, boasting more than 20,000 unique options.

4. Irondale City Center | Irondale

The former Zamora Shrine Temple will undergo an $18 million renovation to become the new Irondale Civic Center.

The project, which will go through the bidding process for contractors in the first quarter of 2025, is expected to take between 12 and 18 months to be completed.

The space will give the City of Irondale a facility capable of hosting a wide variety of events and also provide several community facilities available for everyday use.

5. ALDI | Chelsea

The Winn-Dixie store at 150 Chelsea Corners is set to close its doors in March, but don’t worry—the space will reopen as popular discount grocery chain ALDI.

In 2023, German supermarket chain ALDI acquired roughly 400 Winn-Dixie and Harvey’s Supermarket locations across the Southeast from Southeastern Grocers, Inc. as part of its goal to have 2,400 stores across the country by the of the year. 

The Chelsea location will be the third Birmingham-area store to convert.

6. Juniper | Birmingham Museum of Art

After an experimental year with a new café concept at the Birmingham Museum of Art, beloved cocktail bar & restaurant Juniper has decided to close its “Juniper at the Museum” café to prioritize the original location in Forest Park. 

Juniper will continue to serve fantastic food and drinks at its Forest Park location—give them a visit!
