On Wednesday, December 11, I attended United Way of Central Alabama’s (UWCA) celebration of its 2024 annual campaign along with 200 Greater Birmingham community members.

During the event, the organization announced it had raised $38,700,502 to help support partner agencies, programs and services across Central Alabama. Here’s a closer look at why these funds are vital to the health and well-being of so those in our community.

$38M for 100+ nonprofit partners + vital programs across Central Alabama

The official total raised was $38,700,502, which was $1.2 million beyond the year’s campaign goal.

“It was my honor to accept the challenge and responsibility for leading this year’s campaign. I’m extremely humbled by this opportunity.

This is not my accomplishment; this is our community’s accomplishment.”

Every year, UWCA recruits hundreds of local volunteers to visit each of its partner agencies to hear about their missions and accomplishments, see how well they’re doing and learn what their greatest needs lie.

The Visiting Allocations Team (VAT) is crucial to the mission of UWCA, which is pivotal in their influence across Central Alabama.

“This first-hand experience allows [volunteers] to make informed decisions and helps United Way ensure that every dollar serves its intended purpose, yields maximum impact and transforms lives.

Tonight we celebrate the incredible generosity of you.”

Dr. Tracy Morant Adams, UWCA Community Impact Committee Chair
