When you hear “radiology,” you might think it’s simply taking pictures. But you might not realize is that radiology techs are also at the frontline of care—they’re needed in surgery cases, traumas and more.
For Cassie Glass and Janine Tyner, their jobs consist of loving and caring for the children they serve.
To learn more about this career, we talked with Cassie and Janine in the radiology department at Children’s of Alabama.
Let’s meet them!
Cassie Glass enjoys connecting with + calming her patients
Cassie Glass was a student tech in the radiology department before she joined the team full-time. She’s been a Radiologic Technologist for two years now, and has “never felt as loved and cared for” as she does at Children’s.
She gets to return that love and care while she works closely with patients.
“Being in the hospital as a child can be frightening, so calming them and making them feel safe while also giving them the care they need is one of my favorite things.”

Cassie loves learning something new every day on the job, and she loves that she gets to do it at Children’s.
“It’s really neat to see how everything works with the parts of your body that you can’t see.
I love the career I chose, the hospital I work at and I would strongly recommend people who are thinking about either going to school for Radiology or coming to Children’s to work to stop thinking about it and just do it!”

Janine Tyner loves working with kids
Janine Tyner has been at Children’s for 24 years.
She worked at Children’s while finishing her bachelor’s degree, originally planning to attend Optometry school. She ended up staying at Children’s because she loved working with kids!
In her role as a Computed Tomography Technologist, Janine operates CT scanners to produce detailed images of a patient’s internal organs, tissues and bones.
Aside from Janine’s task of operating CT scanners, she has the opportunity to provide comfort to her patients.
“I love working with kids. I choose kids all day long. I enjoy comforting my patients when they are nervous before their procedure.”
