Moxi, an innovative new childcare startup, is establishing its flagship childcare center in downtown Birmingham.

Led by a local working mom, Moxi tackles the country’s growing childcare crisis—why? Here are some staggering Alabama childcare statistics:

  • 85,000 families in Alabama cannot access childcare
  • Alabama has $164 million in earnings and state income lost due to childcare
  • 45% of women who left the workforce cited childcare as a top reason
  • 236 children are on the average childcare waitlist

Through a unique mobile app, parents can seamlessly book and pay for childcare through Moxi’s membership-based network of childcare centers that offer on-demand care. Moxi plans to open its downtown Birmingham childcare center in Summer 2025.

(Nyad)

Founded in 2024 by British entrepreneurs Virginia and Chris, Nyad tackles water pollution with an AI-driven solution.

Nyad believes that by optimizing Alabama’s wastewater treatment processes, they can help protect and enhance Alabama’s valuable and vital waterways, preventing pollutants from entering our beautiful rivers and lakes.

How do they plan on achieving this? They’re developing a “lab in a box”—an automated system using digital microscopy to treat wastewater up to 150 times faster than traditional methods.
