A new locally-owned outdoor retail store offering popular brands of apparel, shoes and recreational gear has opened in Gardendale.

Wood’s Trading Company is located at 250 City St, Gardendale, AL 35071.

Read on to learn about this exciting addition to North Jefferson County.

Wood’s Trading Company has a little bit of everything

The spacious store has a little bit of everything, including:

  • Clothes from Patagonia, North Face and Southern Shirt Company
  • Footwear from Hoka, Brooks and Uggs
  • Fishing gear and camping equipment
  • Pickleball paddles
  • And more

Wood’s Trading Company owner Britt Wood and his wife Laura have deep roots in the Gardendale community.

Their children attended the local schools and the Woods own Ace of the South, the community hardware store.

The Woods also own Werner’s Trading Company, the 70+-year-old outdoor store in Cullman.

Wood’s Trading Company fills a void in North Jefferson County

Britt told Bham Now that the new store fills a void in North Jefferson County.

“The brands that we sell, from the apparel to the shoes to the fishing and pickleball (gear), you name it in our store, you couldn’t find them in the North Jefferson County area.

We wanted to make it (Wood’s) upscale. We’ve got a lot of cool things in the store, from our demo pickleball wall, where you can test out the paddles, to an interactive shoe machine that tells you what shoe fits your foot the best.

We’ve also got a full fishing department. If you are a fisherman, you don’t have to go anywhere else.”

More than an outdoor store

Built with the community in mind, Britt described how they made sure the entire footprint, the store and the surrounding outdoor space served the community inside and outside.

“We decided we wanted to have an event area out front to help bring in the local community, from food trucks to staging different types of events.”

The store is all about the community and supporting local causes.

For example, they are sponsoring the Gardendale, Mortimer Jordan, Corner and Hayden high school fishing teams. They are big supporters of the Salvation Army and Gardendale Miracle League Baseball.

“Woods Trading Company is a great addition to Gardendale and will attract shoppers from surrounding areas. It’s locally owned with all of the top brands in apparel, footwear, fishing and much more. Everyone that I have talked to loves the new store.”

Gardendale Mayor Stan Hogeland
