1. Qdoba | UAB
Qdoba Mexican Eats has opened its first Birmingham location, the third in Alabama, in the heart of UAB Medical District.
Located next to Tropical Smoothie Café, Qdoba is known for its build-your-own tacos and burritos.

2. Rue 21 | The Shops at Grand River
The largest outdoor shopping center in Leeds has a new addition just in time for the holidays. Rue 21 offers casual and trendy styles for young women—they even have a new Wicked collection.
Plus, The Shops at Grand River has also added Sneaky Pete’s to its food court lineup.

3. Moxi | 1st Ave N
Moxi, an innovative new childcare startup, is establishing its flagship childcare center in downtown Birmingham.
Located in the historic Black Diamond building, the 13,100 square foot center will be used for:
- On-demand care for children 12 weeks to 5 years old
- Co-working space + a fitness studio for the families who use the childcare center
Members of Moxi will also receive full access to a member-exclusive app which allows booking and paying for flexible, on-demand childcare.

4. Carrigan’s | The William
Popular restaurant and cocktail bar Carrigan’s is leaving its home of 11 years and moving to an exciting, brand-new development in downtown Birmingham: The William.
A boutique mixed-use apartment building with 27 apartment units and retail on the ground floor, The William is a new development located at 1911 3rd Ave N, a historic five-story building constructed in 1905 as a furniture/department store.
Although the new location will be smaller than Carrigan’s current home on Morris Avenue, the new home will retain the restaurant and bar’s iconic character and finishes—plus, the distinctive Land Rover back bar will be coming along, too.

5. Ed’s Pet World | Homewood
After 50 years, Ed’s Pet World appears to be selling its iconic downtown Homewood storefront.
Founded in 1974, Ed’s Pet World has specialized in selling exotic pets and fish in addition to aquarium equipment and supplies. The building was listed for sale on RealtySouth with the following description:
“Is your business ready to become part of the iconic downtown Homewood scene? This Premium Downtown Homewood location is ready for it’s new owner. Perfect location in the heart of Homewood; has so many possibilities with a large street presences. Ed’s Pet World has been successful for decades in this building with it’s location being in walking distance from neighborhoods & schools, to restaurants & retail. The building—located at 2730 18th Street South—is located in a stretch of downtown Homewood that has undergone a great deal of development and revitalization in recent years, with the opening of the Valley Hotel as well as new locations for the Rodney Scott’s BBQ and Little Donkey restaurants.
6. Trimtab Brewing Taproom | Downtown Birmingham
TrimTab’s tasting gallery, located at 2721 5th Ave South, will close at the end of the year.
Sources confirmed to Bham Now that Cahaba Brewing Company is in talks to acquire TrimTab and will continue to produce and distribute its core products. Founded in 2013, TrimTab has won awards for its creative and experimental brews and has become a staple on store shelves throughout Alabama.
7. Hush Lounge | Five Points South
Hush Lounge at Five Points South is closing.
The popular speakeasy made national news on September 21 when a mass shooting occurred in front of the lounge killing four people and injuring 17. After a month-long search, Damien McDaniel was arrested and charged in the shooting.
